Restaurant Da Madalena
About This Spot
Stepping into Restaurant Da Madalena feels like finding a quiet corner of Lisbon where time slows just enough to welcome you warmly. Tucked away on a modest street, the restaurant greets you with an unassuming presence that belies the richness found within. The pace here is gentle, inviting guests to linger over their meal, savoring the comfort of genuine hospitality without any rush.
This is a place where the hum of everyday Lisbon life blends with the simple pleasures of shared food and drink. The atmosphere is calm yet quietly alive, carried by the friendly rhythm of neighborhood conversation and low lighting that casts a soft glow over well-worn wooden tables. Here, it’s easy to feel at ease, as if you’ve slipped into a local’s cherished spot, where every visit holds the promise of a new memory.
At Restaurant Da Madalena, the flavors gently reveal themselves through thoughtful preparations rather than grand gestures. The kitchen brings a sincere appreciation for quality ingredients and familiar combinations, crafting dishes that feel both comforting and a little adventurous — like a plate of octopus rice bringing a tender sea-scented warmth or the simple joy of a freshly made bifana shared late into the night. There’s an approachable generosity to the menu that makes it a fitting refuge for those seeking a satisfying meal long after many places have closed.
The charm of the restaurant extends beyond the food. There’s a welcome in the air, a sense of openness from the folks behind the counter who seem genuinely glad to share their space. Whether you’re arriving on a quiet evening or wandering in past midnight, you’re met with a kind attentiveness that encourages you to settle in and enjoy the moment.
For those who cherish the experience of dining as much as the food itself, Da Madalena offers a quietly special place — where flavor, warmth, and a touch of local spirit come together in a way that stays with you long after the meal ends.

Robin, the owner is so welcoming and generous. It was already 11:30 at night and everywhere we went to were closed even the gellateria. We stumbled on his place and he spent time talking to us giving us samples of Ginjinha and Verde wine. We had Bacalao and roasted garlic potatoes, House steak from Brazil, and grilled sea bass and salad with Superbock beer, Sommersby sparkling apple cider. Suddenly, the place became party central. It seems like Robin is well-liked in the neighborhood and locals come by and gave smiles and exchange stories and laughter to each other, along with a music video in the background. This is a night to remember and super thanks to the authentic, sincere hospitality of Robin! I hope you’ll have the same experience like we had.

Most delicious chicken dish. My husband enjoyed the octopus rice. Perfect dinner in a very unassuming atmosphere. Thank you for a good night. The folks that run this place were very kind and welcoming. Don't let the quiet front fool you. Go in and have a wonderful meal. Great prices. Our total bill was 51 Euros and we each had a cocktail and then a bottle of wine with dinner. Groovy!

We were looking for food around 23:00 and came across this restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by the staff there and were very pleasantly surprised by the food we were served. The dishes were fresh and tasted amazing. Can recommend the octopus rice; it was delicious!

Flew into Lisbon late and needed some food after midnight. This unassuming spot had very good food with huge, sharable portions and at very reasonable prices. Owner is very courteous. Food service isn't super fast but they had just one person to fire up the kitchen that late, so not unexpected. For what it is, I was super impressed! Got the octopus fried rice (also included shrimp, prawns, and mussels!). Wife was skeptical of how good the food would be but she dug into it once it came to the table!
